3,600 years ago santorini produced a volcano 4 times the size of krakatoa which reputedly wiped out minoan civilization on crete. between 1570 - 2006 ( see above ), the santorini volcano has erupted 8 times - once every 54 years with the last event being in 1950. this makes the next eruption 2 years overdue . . .
